Massive blaze renders 11 families homeless in Bandipora | KNO

Bandipora, May 20 (KNO): At least six houses comprising eleven families were on Wednesday rendered homeless after the massive fire broke out in Gamroou Village of north Kashmir's Bandipora district. Officials said a local Madrasa also got completely damaged in the blaze. An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that a massive fire broke out at a residential house of Ali Muhammad Dar at around 02:40 PM and within no time engulfed some adjoining residential houses. Fire tenders, however, were rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after nearly five hours. Nonetheless, till the fire was brought under control, at least 11 families lost their houses. Besides, a local Madarasa was also got damaged “We pressed 35 fire tenders and eight motors to control the blaze and managed to avert a major tragedy as the area is thickly populated and the lanes and by-lanes are narrow,” an official said. However, the official said about six houses and a madrasa were damaged in the fire while some people have been also injured, adding that a journalist identified as Suhail Ahmad was among the five persons who received burn injuries while dousing the flames. Following the incident, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Zahoor Ahmad and Tehsildar Bandipora Rouf Iqbal visited the affected families and to assess the damage. Officials said that the cause of the fire was not known yet while police has taken the cognizance of the fire incident and has started investigation into the matter—(KNO)
